The way Casey and Rijndael explained it was that individual mempools start diverging drastically depending on whether the node is running ordisrespector or not

Yes, but that is the desired effect. The only potential negative is that blocks take ever so slightly longer to propagate when they are found (if they contain any inscriptions).

Why dangerous? Mem pools are individualized anyways, once proposed in a block all nodes would accept it unless we make a more invasive change. Didn’t listen though so maybe I missed context.
