Not necessarily. But even your own country, Switzerland, has legislation requiring FOSS software exclusively to be used by government institutions. That's a huge step in the right direction.

Now imagine if we had similar legislation for consumers. I don't have an exact answer for what the solution is, but it would force companies to change and more consumers would be aware of privacy implications even if the legislation got repealed.

I hope that's the case but while that's being legislated, if even, people will need get smarter than whine all day about their privacy because let's be honest, a majority of people gave it up freely.

That is 100% true. You can't sit around and whine about it while also not taking any steps in the meantime. At that point it's just wishful thinking.
