I've been here a while, sporadically checking and posting, but my impression stands: the anything-but-obvious path to using #nostr both on desktop and mobile, and the lack of a quick and seamless setup and onboarding for any kind of person with near-zero foreknowledge is what I think the greatest entry barrier for most people. Compared to this, Fedi is a cakewalk (and it always felt that way to me, but apparently not to most people).

I think the problem is that there are many different ways to get onboarded, some are much harder than others. Which one did you use?

started with Iris, tried other clients, got frustrated at barely any client existing for both mobile and desktop for a cohesive experience, tried to understand how domains work, gave up about it when I realized I don't have a server and don't want one (yet), got annoyed by all the Bitcoiners and Sats and Zaps which I have zero interest in, got back into the game with Jumble, and right now wondering why Jumble does not notify me at all about your reply here :)))
