**Tech Giants Will become Nostr Clients**
#[0]
Tech giants will become #Nostr clients not because they can, but because they will be forced to. Unfortunately this is not a good prediction; a good prediction says not only what will happen, but also when, and I cannot predict the latter. For decades, tech giants like Facebook and Twitter have been enjoying their monopolies gained from seigniorage. This benefited two generations greatly: the boomers and their children. Out of leisure they happily accepted the product as presented to them. Over time, social media was forced to monetize, and users were herded onto platforms they didn't sign up for. The easiest way to monetize free products to users was by selling the user’s attention to advertisers.
Just like no one bought a laptop without an OS, the OS was considered free of charge when in fact it was bundled with bloatware paid for by advertisers.
So, for the first time, the keepers of massive social media platforms have been taunted with a viable decentralized competitor. Will they pivot to the Nostr protocol? Yes, I think they’ll be forced to. Will they create algorithms to manipulate and profit from users? Of course they will. Will they be able to create elaborate walled gardens to monetize your data? Not anymore. Early nostr users flocked to an idea that liberates us from these giant abusive platforms, and more will follow. We now have the luxury of choice.
