I get your sentiment. But in the context of that quote - they mean stealing elements from another artist and incorporating it into their own work. The example that pops into my head is Darren Aronofsky who likes to steal from Satoshi Kon' anime movie Perfect Blue. He heavily used it for Black Swan, and some scenes were also influenced in Requiem for a Dream.
And Christopher Nolan’s Inception is inspired greatly by Satoshi Kon’s Paprika.
Even this is debated if that is ethical or not.

So artists are not exempt from this criticism if they rely too heavily on stealing. AI doesn't create anything new, it just mushes together what it has been input into its system. It does this REALLY well and it appears new. But it is not. And it can't ask for permission to borrow or license ideas. So its hard to tell what influenced the AI output and if anyone needs to be credited.
With all that said, I'm not discouraging people from using it. I think it is an effective tool. But I think you should be aware of its shortcomings and also proof its work while adding your own spin to it.
