Don't knock it! That ViC was the start of a lifelong journey for me. I had to fight my parents for a long time to get them to buy it for me, because they thought it was a time-waster like television that would rot my brain, or I'd get bored with it after a week and never use it again. Oh, how wrong they were!

My dad was the king of lack of foresight. His life was littered with amazing opportunities that he passed up because he decided it wouldn't be worth it.

When Blockbuster was just starting, he was offered as many franchises as he wanted in the state of NJ for $10k each. He considered the offer and decided it would be a gimmick, and that nobody would want to pay to rent movies.

Oddly, he was also obsessed with technology and always bought the latest stuff. He got one of the first 50 BetaMax machines commercially available. It with a special certificate from Sony that he actually hung on the fucking wall! 🤣
