so, just testing some other clients rn

mattn's algia - works nice, though it takes a lot longer to come back with the results than it should

gonna try gossip now, because ok fuck it let's see - snort, coracle, primal all don't like my relay, but algia and nostrudel do, so, i haven't used gossip in ages

3 minutes later still waiting for the compilation lol

CPU at max, about 12gb of memory in use

bUt rUsT iS bEtTeR

Compiling gossip-lib v0.11.0-unstable (/src/mleku.net/g/m/cmd/gossip/gossip-lib)

Finished `release` profile [optimized] target(s) in 5m 06s

on a ryzen 5 with 6 cores and 64gb of memory, oh yeah, that's accessible to lowly plebs lol

and no, it doesn't talk to my relay, and i don't know why... maybe it actually has debugging and i can see some errors

and no, no logging, so, thanks.

i swear i made a mistake in forking from yet another shitty codebase again

i feel like i need to do penance and write this thing from scratch based on what i learned in the process, and get it all right from the get go

btcd/btcwallet was also a nightmare of excessive complexity as well, and so suboptimal it was laughable

Be honest, you only decided to try gossip so you could complain about rust 😂

hah, no, i was sincerely hoping there would be logs telling me something about why the UI was not saying happies for the relay, and i couldn't even get it to pull any events from anything, i remember this from before, had to go thorugh and manually do all this settings shit lol

and yeah, 5 minutes compilation time is pretty rich

so i'm literally rewriting... probably won't rewrite that much code actually, but just gonna start clean, it was way too opaque in fiatjaf's code to really readily grasp so many things and i eventually figured out what the hell was going on in some places and now i think i can write it a lot better

Gossip rules!

ok, good for you that you are ok with the complicated initial setup but it's really not friendly

It wasn't as simple as installing an android app, but I don't remember the installation being overly cumbersome... Maybe my system was already in a friendly state (dependencies or something)

i built it from source, that was fine (although it took 5 minutes on a medium spec machine with 64gb and 12 cores and NVMe)

i gave it my nsec and it found my relays and then proceeds to not actually connect to anything or fetch anything, even when i manually added more

if i sit there 5 minutes and can't get even one event to be fetched i'm done trying to use the app, terrible UX

i'm a long time tech troubleshooter also, worked for about 11 years as a freelancer, if something can be figured out, and i haven't got it in 5 minutes i say it's broken, when it's not a supposedly release quality piece of software

Weird. It worked immediately for me
