I joined #Nostr in December last year, having no clue how to use it or what it even really was, except that it was maybe an alternative to Twitter. I was skeptical, but I was fed up with Twitter, so I installed Damus and created a profile.

At that time profile management was poor, there were no direct image uploads, zaps didn’t exist, there was no native Android client, web based apps were lackluster, and there were no helpful how to guides available. And yet, 3 weeks later I tweeted the screenshotted messages below on Twitter, and a month and a half after that, I completed deleted my Twitter account. Now, a few months later, I see even more what Nostr’s potential is, well beyond just Twitter-like apps.

It is frustrating, and at times down right irritating, to see new users join Nostr only to immediately bemoan this or that feature, and then give up and disappear. Or even worse, stick around and continue to complain, but never take the advice given by users who have good answers to their questions.

Do you want freedom, or not? New things are seldom NOT easy at first, and things worth having usually require work on your part. Give it time, put in some effort, and take the advice of people who have already been through the same process of learning you’re going through.

Learning #Nostr is worth the time and effort, I guarantee it.

cool bro

New things are *often NOT easy at first…

That’s what I get for not proofreading the whole thing 😂🤙

I really wish it would be possible to edit notes some time in the future… even if there was a label “Edited” or something.

Personally I’m fine with the lack of edit button on stuff like this. That said, had I written this in a long form editor like Habla.news, those Nostr events are replaceable and can be edited.

Fair enough. However, I’m used to the edit button, therefore I miss it. 😅

But I’ve never heard of habla.news , I definitely have to check it!

I have no idea what I’m doing but it feels special being here.

💯🔥 There have been 3 times before that I’ve felt this way about learning a technology: Linux, the internet, and bitcoin. Nostr is something special and powerful.

If I can figure it out literally anyone can figure it out. I’m a boomer normie hybrid pleb. 😂

X will have its place as the social media retirement home for the boomers.

Those who want something different will come and stay.

“Boomer normie hybrid pleb” 🤣💜 You’re doing great! Things have gotten FAR easier since even just a few months ago, and there are improvements that will help new users get acclimated more quickly.

But even still it’s new and different, and there will always be a learning curve to some degree because it’s a clone of something else. Those who are too lazy to even try and figure out will suffer and unfortunately miss out on one of the most exciting and revolutionary technologies in the world. Instead they will be left jumping through the hoops and walking on egg shells to use X and other platforms without getting banned. They’ll have nothing and they will be happy, I guess. 😅🥲

*because it’s NOT a clone of something else

Another typo, lol 😅
