Hey Dan - so there are a few steps involved there and probably more than you were looking for lol.

The design itself is carved in using a tool called a swivel knife. Then to get it “popped” from the background you use a beveler and hammer.

From there I used an angelus leather paint. After I apply desired coats or colors I wait for it to dry.

Next to have the color stay more vibrant/stand out a bit before staining I added a resist clear coat (usually I apply 2 coats).
