I resemble that remark 😅
Full disclosure I haven't watched these yet. And I don't mean to talk shit, I know you're a smart and curious man. But I've watched some other recommended videos and I'm just not buying FE. Like they really seem to misrepresent the counter argument. For example, that the earth is huge. Or the flight times from Peru to Australia.
I've asked for the strongest proof and was told the Nikon camera with infinite zoom. But I've seen those videos and those ships are partially over the horizon. What you're seeing on the bottom is the ship's reflection just like you can see looking down highway blacktop.
There were no flat earthers among sailors. Why? Because the globe model works for navigation and the flat earth model does not. The problem is that traditional navigational calculations are quite complex and it takes a while to master them, nowadays we delegate this to computers running of GPS coordinates so fewer people understands this (and, BTW, GPS system would not be technically possible on flat earth).
But if one still has dobuts then there are other simple experiments to do:
- watching ships disappear over the horizon (they disappear bottom to top, consistent with round Earth),
- flying really high - you can *see* the curvature with your own eyes,
- if you can't do this you can build your own stratospheric balloon - my friend did, curvature clearly visible on the pics it brought back.
