There was never a good argument for vaccinating kids. Early on we saw kids didn't die from COVID, and early on we saw that the vaccine didn't prevent transmission (Pfizer at least even saying such from the start).

But there was a panic, plus a moral panic: If you didn't signal virtue by vaccinating everything that moves, then you are selfish and don't care about killing grandma. Even though most people saw through that panic, they didn't want other people who didn't see through it to judge them. That is how mob behavior snowballs.
