Because it's the most not-like-Twitter Twitter alternative being fed to them by the media. Bluesky is a media darling.

I also understand that if Nostr got a few million users overnight most of our clients and relays would also go down.
It's a risk for public relays, but the private whitelisted relays would continue to persist. It's an interesting advantage nostr relays have over other networks.
If all of my followers started following millions of people, my nostrelites relay would probably go down 🤣
Tbh I think we'll feel this next summer/fall..
Certainly a problem we hope for.
A lot of relays would go down.
Some clients would become unstable.
I think responses & approaches to the increased usage would quickly arise & proliferate.
