Back in the early days of Instagram, I used hashtags to find things and people. Now, on #nostr, I'm doing something similar.
I'm thinking about whether we can use algorithms to make the nostr experience even better in the future, OR if algorithms might actually be causing problems in the first place.
So, what could make an algorithm work well? What would be a good reason for it to be there? Is there such a thing as a health algo - besides showing trending notes?
Maybe it can be used to make moderation easiet. I mean, catching spams etc. Other than that, don’t find any reason for using an algo.
Yeah good point. Scanning for scams. Could be like an antivirus program. You should be able to add any algo into any client. Not sure if it’s technically possible but could be cool.
Agree. But how would you “teach” an along nuance. Isn’t everything about it to find patterns amplify them into your feed? Isn’t this like getting rid of all nuance you have

I think if you perform some reductive reasoning on the subject and present the question in the below fashion, you can get a real sense of community consensus.
1 - Would you be OK with an algo model that serves the users?
2 - Would you be OK with an algo model that serves the clients?
3 - Absolutely no Algo!
This framing would initiate some genuine and valuable discourse.

The solution is to have multiple algorithms you can choose from (and make your own). Data vending machines could help there.
I think a choice of several algorithms that are open source, understandable by the end user, that are playable, configurable is the best but we may have long time until then.
