The initial Bitcoin logo was introduced in 2009 and stayed in use for a few months. It was a friend’s gold coin with the “BC” lettering on it. Simple and even naive design. Two capitals were executed in a traditional bold sans-serif typeface with clean contours and straight cuts. The gold and yellow color palette of the badge made the logo resemble a real metal coin.
2010
After a few months, the logo was redesigned and this is when the iconic “B” symbol was first created. The letter “B” with two vertical lines was now placed on a cleaned and refined gradient gold circle, just like the one from the previous version, but with more gloss and distinction. The new signifier made the currency look like a real one, equal to the US dollar, Euro, or any other.
2010 - Present
At the end of 2010, the Bitcoin logo was redesigned again — the “B” was now white and placed diagonally in a plain orange coin. The design became completely flat and all the gradients were gone. The new color orange and the white color palette is a representation of energy and growth, of progress and motion. The white serif “B” with two vertical strokes crossing it looks solid and evokes a sense of loyalty and professionalism.
