They are.

Ballot images by the machines are stored by FEC law for minimum 18 months.... but you need Freedom Of Information Act and a court order to gain access to the system.

Agreed on making the whole thing open and publicly auditable.

Until then, elections are selections unless the people united, decide to change the system.
