As much as I love Nostr the big question on my mind is wether it will be able to overcome Twitter’s network effect

Yes.

Zap

People are ditching Twitter vowing to never go back and post exclusively to Nostr. I’m not seeing the opposite happening. That’s telling. Plus zaps are fun. 😅⚡️

I've given this a lot of thought recently, I'm curious to see in what ways clients evolve to have some form of differentiation.

After all, what we are using is just the most obvious version of the protocol. There are all sorts of wild directions it can evolve from here.

Gonna be a fun ride 📈🧡😎

Irrelevant. Quality over quantity. The quality of interaction on Nostr far exceeds that of Twitter.

Legacy networks get disrupted when they become stagnant, oppressive, outdated, and slow moving.

If Twitter survives, it'll be because it adjusted to compete. Otherwise nostr growing network effect will impact Twitter like Bitcoin is and will do legacy payment rails.

I don’t think so. For instance, I love sports. And love following sports accounts that post highlights and commentary. I don’t think the incentives are strong enough for them to pick up and move. Too risky when Twitter already works great for them.

Does it have to overcome it, which would imply a level of user friendliness that your grandmother could use, or is it ok if its reach is smaller. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't need to be #1, it just needs to have quality people and quality content and have enough engagement to make it worthwhile.

Really don't care , I will be at the place that treats me better and I have most fun , twitter isn't it.

Network effect is a relative thing. MySpace had a bigger network effect than Facebook until it didn't.

But is it really Nostr vs Twitter or is it more about Amethyst/Damus/Nostrgram/etc vs Twitter? Nostr's "just" the protocol, right? The user experience is in the clients on top.

Seems like the more direct competition for Nostr is Bluesky's AT protocol. Or am I wrong there?

Freedom conquers all!

Like Laggard says...in due course! But when? In due course! 😃

I've never even used Twitter. This beats the hell out Twitter's nonexistent network effects.

Twitter has a network, but a network effect is defined by a network being made stronger by every new participant.

I don't think Twitter has that anymore.

Also, Nostr isn't a single network. There are many relays, and while they are interoperable, they aren't necessarily on the same network.

This is important because people have private communication networks already - dms, private group chats, etc. All of that can be on Nostr, but not all of it has to be. It's modular. But the more stuff people have on Nostr, the easier I'll be to just use Nostr for everything, because all Nostr clients can talk to each other easily, but not all social media apps can talk to each other.

Nostr actually has a network effect. Twitter doesn't anymore.

Agree. It's like Nostr is a hard fork of Twitter trying to steal attention. Worse, the more time we spend here, the less time is spent there orange-pilling newbies with the facts. I already notice a decline in Bitcoin OG's over on Twitter.

People will gravitate towards platform which is not censored and non-algorhotmic.

Same way you could ask if bitcoin will overcome network effect of fiat. It will - slowly but surely.

If Twitter integrates lightning and stops censorship, shadow banning, etc. then it will be fine. But it's like saying that bitcoin will lose because central banks will stop debasing currencies and will start to act responsibly.

Me too. If we compare to texting vs telegram, texting doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Maybe that’s an inadequate comparison though.

Damus won’t but eventually Twitter will integrate the NOSTR protocol as will all social platforms.

I hope so, twitter feels like a ghost town. I know people are posting more there but it feels weird over there. Like it's mostly bots

I think it's gonna take a while. Bitcoin twitter is here but no normie communities. Bitcoin and sats as monetization will be the main attraction. People just need to realize there's a better faster money to be had for their content.

This will be interesting to see how it develops indeed!

Dose simply have a nostr page?

Soon!

Agree. Long way to go
