I like Fedimint's approach in doing it for others and informing them in steps of the importance to self-custody. This is the gradual release of responsibility after meeting them where they are.

The approach is like The Zone of Proximal Development by Lev Vygotsky "which refers to the gap between a child's current level of development and the level they are capable of reaching with tools provided by others with more knowledge." Works on adults as well.
