I remember in grade school a military chopper was going to land in a nearby field, lot, so the kids could see. We all gathered around, they told us we needed to get very far back, we did and laughed it seemed ridiculous.

When the chopper tried to land, it blew so much rocks, dirt into all of us we had to all go back inside and let it land after… Those things put out fierce wind..

Grew up in a military family around this and can confirm. The rotor wash below a Chinook (the big one with 2 blades) has hurricane force winds when hovering. Insane power!
