While the Notes feature of Nostr remains excellent, we need to promote other aspects of the protocol as well. There are many great projects that are expanding the capabilities of Nostr beyond simply being a social media platform, such as Zap.stream, Nostr.cooking, and Pinstr.app. What other non-social media clients are your favorites?

nostr cooking is my favorite!!

We should infiltrate some of the cooking subs on Reddit with links to recipes there.

that’s so smart

GitNestr of course but it's not demoable just yet.

I'm building 3 more other stuff clients right now 😅 I'll keep you posted

I was thinking an App Store could work.

Not a store for nostr apps, no an AppStore built on top of nostr. Mostly for Open source projects.

I like it

The best possible uses for Nostr (created or not) in order:

1. TOR Coordination - Every nostr user or relay can optionally relay TOR as an alternative DMT.

2. Bittorrent Coordination - Every nostr user (in browser!) can store and relay bittorrent data. (This is important to use it as a CDN for the social medial layer)

3. Lightning Coordination - Lightning nodes can be coordinated much easier & more privately via automatic communications over Nostr.

4. Password Management - The best password managers are available to the whole web, just highly encrypted. Additional security can be had by Sharding a password file and keeping it on multiple different relays.

5. Bitcoin private markets - Other than lightning coordination, bitcoin can be Bought & Sold very privately a marketplace that uses Nostr to communicate it's order books.

6. Social Media - Clones of every social media site like instaG, twitter, FB, tiktok, blogs, etc all have their own apps or heck, why not combine all into one super app like Elon is trying to do?

7. Messaging - Better than Whatsapp/Line/Signal, Nostr allows perfectly secure & anonymous instant messaging. The frilly stuff may need the CDN again.

I really need to reopen my nostr based torrenting project.

I like all of these. Have you used https://github.com/jinglescode/nostr-password-manager

This feels like a terrible idea… at least until we have better encryption and key rotation in the protocol. And it’s implemented in JavaScript 😳😬

I would not store any secrets here

Yes to this!

LNbits marketplace

It's been out for so long but it barely has any use. I think it would help if clients supported some aspects of it, such as when a user lists a new item or even showing listing information when you're DMing as part of the normal marketplace conversation.

correct - plus few are doing paywalls which can somehow combined - something to be worked out

just thoughts- end end users will pick what work best or even someday compete with decentralized AMZM

Nostr is basically like being on the early internet before it was “the internet.”

Trying to explain it makes you sound totally insane but having even the most basic understanding of just how to USE it (not even develop it) today sets you up to win in the coming new order.

Hmm. I like this analogy, because the Internet was more decentralized in the 90s.

Nostr noob web dev here, taking a deep dive into decentralized volunteer organization. Just finished this page proposing a new project for libertarians. Wanna launch by 2024. Any feedback is appreciated. I’m out on a limb by myself ATM.

Where to look for coding assistance?

What roadblocks may be ahead?

What code repos are best?

Hosting ideas?

I struggle with these other things cause I think they should be linked within the app or something. I'm not going to bookmark every different site anymore. Maybe it's just me.

Nah, you're absolutely correct here. We don't make discovery of these other apps and services all that easy. More clients need to do this.

Not sure if it’s on anyone’s favorites list but my friends and I have been building a classifieds client called Shopstr. Check it out:

https://shopstr.store

I would welcome a fitness tracker app - like ‘strong’ clone

Probably more of a workout tracker, you just type your numbers, no step track in bollocks

I want to see more marketplaces running on Nostr

This is underrated, IMO. Even I don't use it as much as I think I should. It's really powerful and just takes time to build it into your workflow.

https://formstr.app but it’s very nascent atm

Well we have lightning payments integrated into Zap.Rent so far now I’d like to get all the login and profile stuff switched out to use Nostr.

I recently thought about making a simple online card game to be compatible with the idea of Nostr not being designed to host very heavy audio-video archives. I thought a marketplace of that game over Nostrmarket or plebeian market would be pretty neat if it were able to gain traction

Aren’t these all systems that can only be accessed via a centralized web app at this time though?

Are there any truly distributed Nostr apps/sites besides notes that we can access today (without hosting your own copy of the website)?
