Indeed. Now I grew up where 80+ percent were Catholic too so no meat on Fridays was common so it was cheese pizza. Other Friday foods were fried fish (cuz somehow fish isn't meat π ), baked potatoes, potato and cheese pirogies and the number one fav, Mac and Cheese.
The Mac was good but the win was the rolls that came with it. You could buy extras for a dime with a hard limit of 2 extras. There were a lot like the rolls at Texas Road House in taste but HUGE and baked in like jumbo muffin tins.
In Jacksonville where I was in middle school the food at schools was barely edible, I think prisoners got better. But where I went to High School in rural PA, the food was damn solid especially for the price.
From my volunteer days in Jax schools not so long ago, the food is still that horrid.

Luckily the no meat thing was only during lent, so you know we had to suffer for the whole one day. I hated fish growing up. Now I miss it, because Tennessee fish fry is farm raised catfish, vs up North where you got a nice white fish like cod or walleye. Every time we go home we hit a Friday fish fry with beer! Yum!
