Imagine a 45’ *container full of these. Beekeeping is a whole lot of moving this kind of stuff onto the hives, off of the hives, into the honey shop, into the storage container, twice every year, in the heat, with mosquitoes, yellow flies, beggar lice, and whatnot. That doesn’t begin to touch the heavy honey harvests in between.

I am fond of much color, and I petitioned nostr:npub1uense4apn73tvh4u20tzlp6u72g4kdustzsm0k0sqy6yuwh5jxlsy97y76 to please let there be color in our apiaries. It is said that bees only see certain colors, but do see patterns, so the many color variations may help them recognize their hive from distances. That said, they identify home from recognition of the sun’s position relative to the hive and other bio markers like pheromones, etc.

Not particularly. I am fond of much color, and I petitioned @Kingbee to please let there be color in our apiaries. It is said that bees only see certain colors, but do see patterns, so the many color variations may help them recognize their hive from distances. That said, they identify home from recognition of the sun’s position relative to the hive and other bio markers like pheromones, etc.

These days, we leave the wood natural, and dip the boxes in hot beeswax to protect and seal the wooden ware for longer life.
