Its a bummer we didn’t breed our goats this year, but you do have to mange your own time, energy and money. Pigs felt like enough for us this year. Until I look at a picture of our goat kids from last year and immediately get FOMO! #grownostr #dairygoats

Time management can be a real MFer

It sure as hell can. The ideas come a lot quicker than the implementation and execution. Time management is crucial!

It sure can be. Just got a salaried manager position. Holy cluster fuck batman. The pay is still decent enough but man I got canoed on my third day on the job.

Oofda, yeah managing other humans is quite the task.

We are planning to breed our goat this year. It will be the first time doing so. Any advice, lessons learned?

They can squirt through much smaller holes in fencing than you can imagine. 😂 If you’re going to disbud, have at least 2 people and do it sooner than later. Around 3 -4 days is ideal. For castration we use berdizoo method which has worked well for us. DON’T play with the youngsters heads. It’s an absolute blast, but will lead to them thinking it’s ok to head butt humans. Other than that, stay the hell out of the mama’s way. She knows what she’s doing.

How does goat milk compare to cows?

It has a much lower fat and sugar content. Some people say it’s too funky but I really enjoy it. I drink raw cow milk too and it tastes like liquid ice cream compared to the goat milk.

I see. So what's the motivation for the goats you like the funk every once in a while?

Haha. I do like the funk every once in a while. They’re also smaller, easier to handle and eat a hell of a lot less. I do think we’d like to get a dairy cow at some point though, once we could produce enough food and have an outlet for the quantity of milk they produce.
