I think the chances of widespread adoption of Nostr are about as slim as the possibility of Linux taking off with normies. Although there's a genuine need for it, I suspect it'll always be a niche thing.

probably almost 100% of the people out there are using Linux without even knowing. In their phones, in their home router, in their smart tv and so on.
The UX is so different, that's why they don't know. The playstation 4 OS is based on BSD, but I don't think anyone would call that a BSD experience.
exactly. today NOSTR have, mostly, the UX of Amethyst or Damus. Tomorrow it might become something completely different that everybody use without even know that the underlying protocol is called NOSTR
I should have clarified in my original point that I was talking about culture. I'm sure developers will be able to make platforms every bit as appalling as Twitter or Facebook using the Nostr protocol.
In my optimistic moments I actually think the future will trend away social media. You hear kernels of it already. In this scenario I'm seeing it will return to a state where people will think it is 'sad' thing only losers do. I mean that's already here, but it's said ironically whilst also having everyone addicted to it.
Normies use Linux every day on their android devices .
