Don’t wanna get too sassy but honeybees seen in the wild are generally girls/workers. Males/drones are worthless, laying around the hive, eating honey. They cannot even sting or protect the hive. Their one vital function is to be chosen to mate with the queen, period; they never forage for pollen or nectar to be made into honey. No compassion, but none, in the beehive. Once bee gets weak and can’t contribute in the hive, due to tattered wings, age, whatever, they generally will exit the hive and go die on the ground. If they are too weak for whatever reason, they will be *“balled”, basically claustrophobic closing/choking off their space until they are crushed by other bees. If a bee has to use her stinger, she will die, so this preserves the hive’s numbers.
* Queens who are rejected by the workers/nurse bees will be thusly suffocated
