🎯 Totally.

The point is more that ypu have to buy all those extra parts with packaging and the attempt to engineer something more difficult for the sake of it. Stopping folks from changing their oil and creating profit for the rent seekers is the point.

I also want to add this, so we know who we really should be directing our anger toward as well, specifically in the US cartage filters are becoming more standard for emissions/waste. Canister filters were considered to generate more waste and the EPA has put their pressure on mfgs to reduce "waste" and require more complicated mechanisms for wear parts. MFGs can also become responsible for the hazardous waste produce from things like oil changes so the can require procedures like this to help reduce spillage. Moving things like oil change to the dealership means that mechanics will follow EPA recommended waste procedures more closely (are supposed to) and less like to generate unnecessary waste or hazardous spillage.
