Another even lower effort solution is to get old. Your hearing range falls off until you can't hear them anymore.

Background noise interferes with conversation a lot more than it used to, as I age. Echoey restaurants are almost unbearable for conversation at this point
Yep. Loop earplugs help a little with that but it is rough.
