Coil whine in the transformer. It's mechanical vibration due to shit manufacturing. You can try a dollop of silicone on the ferrite to shut it up.

Another even lower effort solution is to get old. Your hearing range falls off until you can't hear them anymore.

Background noise interferes with conversation a lot more than it used to, as I age. Echoey restaurants are almost unbearable for conversation at this point

Yep. Loop earplugs help a little with that but it is rough.
