Nostr has No Algorithm, Because the people are the Algorithm.

The reason some on here seem to be wildly popular and others do not, doesn't necessarily reflect personal communication skills or thoughts.

Nostr is basically an echo chamber of the same core things.

Freedom, Nostr Development, Memes, Bitcoin.

Those are the fundamental values that *most* people share.

Imagine you are in a cave, everyone is shouting the same things repetitively, One guy is shouting something completely different.

What the other is shouting isn't bad, but can't be heard because the other voices are louder and drowning it out.

This can work opposite too, someone can stand out in a good or bad way and get noticed as well, but it isn't as likely.

Example: Imagine a Dogecoin geek came on and started pushing Doge, we might stop for a second and think "That's weird" then we would probably just mute him and move on.

Because that's not what the people are about.

You kinda need to vibe with the majority to be found here, and I don't mean taking your personality, definitely not.

Other social medias have more diversity in perspectives, and the algo pushes that to similar people.

Nostr doesn't have this, and like it or not, most people on Nostr share the same core perspective.

If you are different, you are still welcome, that just might be why you don't seem to vibe with people.

I hope personally this changes in some ways, just thought I'd point it out as it's something I have noticed a lot.

A good Reddit style client might help people find other people with common interests

I've wanted to build one, sorta like reddit sorta like threads by meta.

let me know if u find one

Seems like that would be something like stacker news

I don't mind there being a place for us. Sometimes it's nice for it not to be strange to value these things.

Yes, I agree with that for sure.

Only disagreement I have with this is that some people are wildly popular because the primal app suggests them to all new users.

That's why they got 100k followers and all the new people tend to congrate in their comments sections because they themselves have no followers.

It creates a feedback loop.

Yes I agree, primal does that, and Damus too. But if you notice, some of those 100k account people have very low retention still, sometimes a 1,000 or 2,000 account has more actually.

You’re a child molester. They’ll find you eventually

Beggar uber loser jaja kill yourself

You’re a child molester. They’ll find you eventually

You’re a child molester. Kill yourself.

I believe with more and more usage of WOT the bubble will even fortify and outside voices are being heard even less. We need to make a conscious effort to welcome and boost new people and other topics.

Couldn't agree more!

Hard agree.

Echo chambers are highly divisive and ultimately repugnant. That's why I do not not support them. One certainly does not "need to vibe with" the majority of people in order to experience meaning with this protocol. I use the search box to find content I like, comment, follow, connect, post what I like, let others follow, connect again. If you put some time in your profile, post and interact with people's posts regularly, I don't see why you shoudn't be able to grow your presence catering to any audience. Additionally, you can pay more attention to which relays you interact with - what kind of posts are common there, especially language and content variety. The more content variety and regular topics we have on our relay, the more attractive it will be for us all. 🌹

I find that the conventional algorithm in the centralised platforms are double edge sword. Let me expand. Whilst it is great that you are recommended based on your browsing which means you do not have to actively find the content. It can also be cathartic to your viewing and overall experience. You end up in an echo chambers and limits your ability to find other content. Unless you are conscious and actively seeking the type of content you want to see. Eg. If you watch AI content, you are likely recommended by the same or similar. It builds your personal browsing profile. This is the sinister side of the algo that we know today. They use behavioural science to get you addicted and to keep you on the platform. It takes a lot of awareness to realise this. On the other hand, #nostr may not have as mature algo as the convention, it does retrain you how to actively engage and search for the content you want and people. I'd be keen to see where the future holds for the protocol ☺️👏🫂
