It's not, tho.

There are a couple of dominant subgroups who make up almost all of the posts and who have trolls who go around yelling at everyone who doesn't conform, without having to deal with the same treatment because there's hardly anyone on the other end of any argument.

They talk a big talk about free speech, but if everything on here was 🌈 and Dogecoin stuff, they would immediately leave and not come back.

Then I haven't posted anything that anyone yelled at me for...not yet.

You're right on "target", so you may never get the pleasure. The stuff that is edgy elsewhere is normie here, and vice-versa.

The social media feed is just an inverse-Twitter.

Hmmm...I kind of see that as the point to Nostr...you can say what you want, if people don't like it they can mute you.

Just like IRL you get to choose your friends. If someone's not a person you'd like to associate with, well, you have options.

But the PLATFORM allows everyone an equal voice.

Free speech is just that--free speech. It's not "forced listening".

The problem arises out of the npub-imbalance. It's prohibitively difficult to reach a critical mass with a new subculture because you spend all day muting and arguing with the people who are already here, rather than having any sort of meaningful, constructive interaction.

It has taken me months and a lot of effort, research, and money to get my npub to a point where I can come here and have an enjoyable conversation.

That is too high of a barrier to entry.

The people who didn't have to do that effort, to reach the same plateau, are quick to inform me that it's not too high.
