nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll #nodestr I’ve been experimenting with running a node on old Mac hardware. I’ve done it on MacOS (meh). I’ve installed Linux Mint and run a node that way (better), and now I’m trying Start9. Installing StartOS on my Mac could not have been easier, and install Bitcoin Core even easier. Syncing now. Let’s Go!

I’ve been toying with the idea of doing this as well. But my dev skill is around a 1 (out of 100). Does this require a bunch of CLI or is it as simple as downloading StartOS and clicking “install”? Or somewhere in between?

Somewhere in between. You need to set a thumb drive up with the StartOS iso. That’s pretty easy. What computer do you want to run it on?

Thanks! That is pretty easy.

It’s an old MacBook Pro (probably 2012-2014, somewhere in there)

On a related note, do you know if you can run core on a MacBook with lockdown mode enabled? Like I can’t think of any reason it would stop you, but not certain…

I wasn’t familiar with lockdown mode, and the proof is in the pudding, but it looks like core should run in that mode.
