Zaps are (for the most part) frictionless, stress-free, and fun. Zaps allow Bitcoiners to use Bitcoin all day, every day, instead of once a year at their favorite Bitcoin conference. Zaps put an end to the FUD that Bitcoin is expensive to use and slow. Zaps showcase the power of the Lightning network.

Alternatively Likes are... Well, likes are hollow and don't have any value.

I am a fan of having both. Likes, at least with Amethyst and Nostrudel and other clients, allow for a wider range of expressive reactions, while zaps are better at expressing how much you valued a particular post.

Clients with only one "like" reaction make it much less useful, though, and definitely set zaps apart as the higher signal.

I agree. I now prefer a wide variety of reaction options with Amethyst, but I make a conscious effort to zap the note if I comment.
