Devs who keep telling users not to use Primal because “x, y, or z doesn’t work” the way they think it should are missing the point that Primal provides the easiest to onboard and most reliable user experience on nostr for users who don’t have time to tinker with stuff all day long. Your self-imposed purity tests of what a true nostr client/user should be are a waste of time and energy and will lead people to ignore you. You have to build things that normal everyday people will want to use, unless you are specifically building for a niche market/audience. I use a variety of nostr apps, including Primal. Each is good for different reasons, and Primal is good because it’s easy to set up, easy to use, looks beautiful, and for the most part every button and gesture does what you’d expect it to do.

Who is telling you not to use Primal?

It’s a popular mantra from multiple people on here

I can't even get past the login screen. It does nothing when I import nsec. I have tried twice in the last year.

I haven’t heard the anti-primal sentiment in a while.

I see it regularly. Just today even:

Oh lol… I guess I muted so many dissenting opinions that they never enter my feed 😂

😂

I have no beef with Primal functionality, except their horrendous approach to wallet top ups, billing in bed with Google. That raised alarm bells for so say anonymity. I have never linked an old Gmail to anything on Nostr yet there it is winking at me at top up time.

It’s merely a convenience for users who want it and don’t mind. You can buy/acquire sats elsewhere and send them to your primal wallet. Or if you’re on Android you can even link any NWC-compatible wallet to your primal app instead of using the built in one.

Also, I'm almost certain devs have to provide the option to purchase sats via Apple/Google payment option for it even to be approved when they submit their builds.

The mechanics of having an approved Google/Apple app are what they are, we have to be realistic about where we are, but my note is more about the PR angle, as in the disappointment/mixed messaging of thinking you are supporting a flagship Nostr "fuck the mainstream, exchanges are the devil" client and the first contact option on display is the mainstream. Maybe a little warning or explanation, as you guys have just provided, might help lessen the blow. cheers

I agree, other than that for ... months it's been busted for me so I haven't been able to post from it.

😭🤣

I won't be surprised if I could fix it by reinstalling, but I come hear to laugh at jokes that my wife would roll her eyes at and neighbors would castigate me for liking, not to deal with those n-thingies 😂

I’d like to interject for a moment. What you are referring to as Primal is in fact GNU/Primal or as recently i have taken to calling - GNU+Primal. Primal is not a nostr network unto itself but rather another free component of a full functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
