Essentially questioning value of clients and projecting their functionality into the future:

- The web browser took off because it was a general way to access the internet.

- Amazon essentially won ecommerce because they can distribute anything at a low cost.

- In its current state, clients are working because its in a niche state.

- If/when it takes off larger companies will have incentives to create their own "client" to access the protocol generally, which can beat out any specific use case that current clients do.

I'm just getting into all this, so there maybe some misunderstanding. So any clarification or opposition is also welcomed. If it is an issue maybe there are ways to mitigate it.

If larger companies create their own clients, but don’t control the underlying identities/data (due to the architecture of the protocol), any non-compliance with the principles can be better served by more open (open source) alternatives… it’s hard for clients to compound value in the same way as they historically have when everything is dependent on DNS

even email, originally an open protocol, has the addressing/datastore tied to initial conditions which allow for larger companies to capture/extract/centralize

such initial conditions (“my account”, “my service”) are structurally non-committed and hence more decentrzlied here
