I think there is truth in both of your perspectives and / or experiences. My assumption is that Carla originally is from somewhere in Europe and that you are American?

I’m from Europe and my experience if you go to buy groceries from the well-known chains the quality is pretty poor in comparison to what is offered in Europe. I agree with you that we choose to go there but keep in mind that the ratio of European income vs US expenditure is quite high.

So our choices are possibly influenced by what we can spend

For me it’s more than just the price, but you’re correct. I went to my local organic farmers market today and stocked up on veggies, fruits, meat, eggs & dairy for the week for two people and spent €120.

Thats how much I was spending for a couple of things labeled grass fed and organic at the store in the US.

Fair point. The cost of living is higher here, but then so is the average income and wealth of Americns vs Europeans. It's relative.
