Liking a note while knowing the other person won’t see it is like giving a thumbs up to someone you’re on the phone with. 🤷‍♂️

🤣🤣🤣🙌

It just doesn’t make sense to want to do it. Lol

That’s what I felt yesterday… I was like “why fighting so hard for the right to send something the other people won’t see”, citing freedom and non censoring as the reason… made no sense.

Then it hit me. Likes are a commodity… aggregated data about them can be sold. Then yes, I can understand people getting shitty about losing a commodity they intended to sell.

Dopamine is the other argument… just so used to the feedback loop.

Maybe the outbursts are just dopamine withdrawals 😂

That is likely 😉

So true 🤣

I use it as a placeholder so I know how far back to scroll. 🤙

Here’s a ⚡️- PV

Functional 🤙

Nodding on a zoom call with the video turned off

Exactly. The debate over the actual purpose or value of likes I can understand. But insisting on being able to send them to people who will never see them is confusing. If there is other functionality that Damus or Nostr is missing and people are using Likes as a substitute/hack for those, then why not just request that feature be created?

But they may not know you have onlyZaps on, especially if using another client 🤷

Very true. This is more directed at other Damus users who can tell, but still want to like your posts even tho you won’t see it.

There's no guarantee that the other person will see your like, your boost, your quote, or even your zap.

Do what you feel is appropriate and try not to be pressured or discouraged

😂

I don't really give a shit whether people see my like our not.

I do it for my own thinking & purposes.

Like ticking off a completed task on a list.

I've tried only zapping & I didn't like it.

Now I like & then ask myself how much value I received from the note. I then zap appropriately.
