Ideally PoW wouldn't be needed on every post, we'd have relays where web of trust is used with PoW as a way for new users to get into the web of trust without needing to be invited

I like that idea, but I think that note-specific PoW has its uses, too. For example, a public figure might want to be able to receive DMs from the general public but not get spammed or sent messages that aren't really that important. But if they said in their bio that they only receive DMs with a certain difficulty of PoW attached, anyone who really needed to contact them could after putting in the work.

Thank you! I'm hoping to find the time soon to share a NIP idea for DNS-free relays so that Nostr is more censorship resistant & so that it's easier for anyone to set up a relay since it won't involve purchasing a domain name. It doesn't involve blockchain or DHTs, & it still adheres to Nostr's client-relay architecture.

I bet that would speed up adoption especially for private group use cases since someone could quickly spin up a local server then have their friends use it.
