This morning I expanded a bit on my unpopular opinion regarding zaps that some people wanted to understand better.

I wasn’t going to publish because ultimately it’s not that important. But decided to just go ahead anyway to shine some light at the logic behind that note. If you care …

On a separate note, can you explain Habla News to me like I’m 5? Is it trying to be like Substack but relying on the Nostr protocol?

Just an interface to write long form nostr notes.

I like to think of it as distributed Medium but with much wider reach minus the risk of centralized publishing.

Do you know if there is a way to login to habla on mobile?

Yeah, it’s more like a medium but all content is on nostr so cross-compatible with any other long-form reader.

Habla is like a Damus, amethyst, snort, etc. a nostr client.

What do you think about zaps for new users as “points”? The concept of sats being actual money could be what the user discovers in their journey, but the idea of in-app money is not novel, what’s novel is that these points happen to transcend any app and that they have real money Larry value.

(Of course, as you allude, the challenge then comes from the question “I’m new, how do I get sats?” But perhaps this could be bridged by a few onboarding journeys like “introduce yourself meaningfully” and make that content very easily discoverable)

I like it! Progressive discovery is often used in complex new products / ideas and we can definitely explore what that looks like on Nostr. I’m designing a new client / onboarding and will see what I can do with it!

🔥🔥🔥

#[2] what do you think of composable onboarding workflows?

nostr:note1423fd3yma0wfu4zd8nggcupz642e2498d5ahxjnu7kp8zeqvyr8s8m98pz

That’s exactly what I’ve been pitching and hope many people will build

if I were to try and spec this…

1) having a onboarding relay in this note and hosting that note with the data is the right way about it? (Id like to try to start spec)

2) or it some hash that contains everything, so the note doesn’t need to be found? (not sure I could spec that)

What do you think about the idea that “likes” are too cheap in social networks?

A #zap doesn’t have to be understood as money transfer. I rather like to see it as stake, commitment or gravitas which I attach to a note.

I see value in likes no matter how easy it is to hit that button without thought. Personally, I use at as a form of acknowledgement to let people know I read their comment, and or that I agree with it. Sometimes you don’t know which I meant - but this is fine imo.

As I wrote earlier, social media has value beyond finding signal in noise - it’s not all about self-improvement and personal growth.

I like people who ask questions and take nothing for granted. Your arguments have made me think and you have given me a very interesting train of thought for the next few hours.

I like your idea of gamifying access to zaps, making the learning curve smoother.

I'm giving a lot of thought to onboarding (my small piece of nostr) and I think we should pay a lot of attention to this.

Thanks for your article #[1] 🙂

💜 Ty for keeping an open mind Quentin!

I think everyone thought about it, but nobody talked about it. Everyone kept ignoring it, but the continued access of users will further engage in talking about it.

You're brave, and you have the right to keep talking about it

I like this clear and logical discussion, and I don't think hiding zap is a good idea. I understand Karnage's concern that some unfamiliar functions will make it difficult for new users to join. However, the growth of new users is not due to the obstacles of unfamiliar functions, which can be well solved by good user guidance and improved wallet function. The most important thing is that Nostr needs to provide a client that is different from other social software and can meet the underlying needs of users. Nostr has been provided and needs to wait for an opportunity. Only this power is big enough that any unfamiliar features won't get in the way. The premise is that the product experience and novice guidance are good enough. Nostr does not yet have a client that does this well enough.

I read you post and approve your reasoning.

Your opinion is shared with many.

In 2020 i researched the addictive properties of instagram. For the same reasons.

Hypothesis was: "if digital social interaction can induce dopamine, then it should be posssible to reverse into generating oxytocin"

I came up with a solution, it worked on an indivudal plane, meaning the experiment was only a partial success it worked but was not widely adoptable.

but otherwise i managed to create yet another fucked up invention and entertained some good folx. Cheers
