TIL about #Nostr –

Your relay list is distributed **to your relays**, so if you have few connections, you might not even have the whole list of relays that you configured.

I was having some trouble connecting and despite having spent a lot of time making a long custom list of relays, I found that my configuration was only showing ~4 relays again.

However, after I connected to a few more relays manually that I recognized from the public list, the entire list I had previously configured was suddenly restored. (jumped from 7 to 35 instantly)

Just something to store away in your brain if you ever find your settings, connections, or previous configuration is gone or has been reset... you might just need to connect to some familiar relays to have it restored.

Thanks #[2] for the tip that helped me think about the problem correctly.

This makes me wonder why those 4 relays that you had left in your list had apparently failed to save your entire relay list?

Same, but at least the problem makes more sense. Maybe it was just a delay in delivering all relevant information, or there was a timeout when requesting that particular piece of data? 🤔

He used several clients so that may have messed things up. *How exactly* would require proper analysis.

That's not a #nostr thing, it's a client choice.

Ah! Interesting.

#[5] #[6] heads up!! 👆

Good info, thanks for sharing!

So how does it know which relay has the source of truth?

How your client retains added relays is really dependent on your client.

I think most clients now send a complete list of your relays when you hit the post/save button. It may take time for your client to find that latest list version but most seen to cache this information locally on your device so it's ready at startup.

Try adding nostr.mutiniywallet.com to your relay list. It's a blaster relay so is better for sending events (sends to all known relays) than receiving them. I use it to distribute my events far & wide. Add mutiny & post your updated relays

Use Blastr for your profile and relay notes. This way it will be on the top 300 relays.
