Never be afraid of loving a story that’s pure fucking awesome. The reason kids movies so often are that engrossing, is because they can’t get away with useless fluff or “artsy-ness.” It means that it’s entirely about the story or it will lose its audience. But that’s all a film ought to be anyway.

As someone who has watched more films than likely most people, went to film school, seen hundreds of super “out there” film work, and has made a few myself — after all of that I’ve come full circle to “kids films are the truest expression of the art of telling story on film.”

How to Train Your Dragon is an incredible story. I’m a huge fan of The Last Airbender too.

Excited to see the new one. Great movie

I’m not sure how I feel about doing live action for a story that worked perfectly as an animated film, and was even really cool despite being animated. I’ll probably watch it tho, lol

Yeah agree with that.

How to Train Your Dragon is unbelievable. Toothless is so adorable.

Brilliant character design. Literally a combo of a dog and a snake with big eyes (the key to translating emotion). Which makes it so easy to have him look stupid love able during their development stage, and then have him look vicious when they have to face the music. Perfect recipe for raising connection with the audience and carrying a ton of tension into the battles.

Last airbender is the goat

Agreed, I also studied film. Watched it for the first time recently because it’s my son’s favourite film. Great story! Looking forward to seeing the live action version with him.

interesting thoughts

it makes total sense now that you said it

And the live action was also a masterpiece. I was truly surprised.

The Princess Bride movie never gets old.
