Proverbs 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Whether religious or not this stands true.
The pattern is clear enough that many religions consider debt as an evil.
Im not a thiest but I dislike the psychology/philosophies behind it.
Debt is the idea that the future is, or wont be, as important as the current moment is now. It is usually a momentary hedonistic attempt to avoid pain now while ignoring the future pains it will cause. They take from their future to pay for the now.
Instant gratification is a mindset I dislike.
Avoid debt, but allow people to choose debt if they want.
There are two ways to enslave with debt:
Self-imposed. People can make debt decisions that harm themselves
Externally-imposed. States force debt conditions on citizens, as a price of living in improved civilization
The only form of debt enslavement to be vigorously resisted is externally-imposed debt mechanisms
The externally imposed slavery/serfdom will explain how it was self-imposed the entire time. They will also use the idea that self-imposed slavery being okay means slavery isnt inherently wrong, thus they have a reason to enact it. It was all our fault.
I will not normalize either as anything less than immoral.
