🇬🇧 What the UK Government can now do under the "Online Safety Act":

- Scan your private messages (WhatsApp, iCloud, Signal)

- Censor protest videos from X and YouTube

- Force ID checks and facial scans to access social media

- Search cloud files (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive)

- Order surveillance without a warrant

- Silence dissent, even Wikipedia is under legal threat

And that is just the start !

Wow. I guess I am happy to American right now.

Unless I've missed something big, they cannot "scan" Signal messages. This would require a backdoor into Signal. This would be bigger news than the Online Safety Act.

Signal will likely have to abandon that market

So far, they aren't backing down (afaik), and good on 'em.

I don't wish it on anyone, but maybe if a nation becomes enough of a digital backwater, they'll push back en masse.

I'm afraid of civil war in UK/EU, things are getting so totalitarian, where is the silent majority of normal people that have had enough?

Agreed. Rapidly approaching the FAFO stage.

I don’t use Signal but I suspect you are right. Access to Signal will end in due course. We shall see.
