I don't remember Spotify ever being the future.
It's easy to tell because Spotify requires licensing but most important is the fact that it's requires the fiat banking system to make money and Spotify dictates the payout amount.
Wavlake bypasses the banking system completely and listeners dictate the amount to give to the artists. As for the licensing I'm not sure how wavlake will handle that but currently wavlake is way more powerful than Spotify.

Prior to Spotify it was quite difficult to get access to so many songs so easily. Was it good for the artists...I don't know, I'm not an artist
Prior to Spotify we used torrent clients and it was easy to get many songs and any song because everyone torrented.
was it good for the artists? it was bad for the big name artists like Britney Spears, was it good for the small artists? no.
now with Spotify, is it good for Britney Spears? yes,
is it good for small artists? no
in both scenarios the small artists never had a chance because the music industry wants big names to succeed and not small artists. The music industry and Spotify want to make money from big names only so they don't care about small artists.
Bitcoin and Nostr will equalize all artists, not the big name monopoly artists
