So, what you’re saying is, they should be teaching kids American numerals instead?
Roman numerals wouldn't be a bad idea (in addition to Arabic) so kids can read fancy clocks

Roman numerals didn’t have a concept of zero though, and if people don’t know what Arabic numerals, are, they just got a zero on the quiz.
I never realized that until just now 😯 though my comment was tongue in cheek 😛
