I don’t think all of it is due to bots. There are several new joiners who have not setup or abandoned a pubkey probably. #[3] may have insights

I think that bigger part of that is bots. Most new users join through popular clients - damus, snort, iris etc, all of those ask for a username at least, which means most people should have bios.
I also know at least one person who created up to 200k pubkeys just to play around.
