Welp, it's more a sign of the economy IMO.

I do see problems with cost cutting and offshoring and replacing competent workers with incompetent ones which is short term gains for long term problems.

but the visa thing is beyond me. We have plenty of space for more engineers.

If the economy is running properly, I don't see a concern. Maybe in an imperfect world socialist world it's a problem where each job is seen as a position that's scarce.

But with proper governance reform, each new engineer will result in an increase of opportunities for everyone. A Mandelbrot set thing where the civilization just mushrooms out into the stars rooted in the economy with the most openness and brilliance.

Also what if this "brain drain" is a tactical.

What if we save the butts in the jobs this year, but oops the AI overlords who come the following year have their control center in India.
