I agree. I didn’t understand why he was so popular (I mean the paintings are certainly lovely) until I went to a Sargent exhibit at the Boston MFA a year ago.

Turning the corner and seeing his portrait of Gertrude Vernon was like being transported to another world, one where she was staring directly at me. It was magnificent!

Would love to have seen this show!

If you have time when you’re in Boston next, if you haven’t been already, my favorite painting I’ve seen of his is there at the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum, El Jaleo.

Not to mention the museum itself is incredibly unique and well worth the trip.

I’m local to the area and have never been 😬🙈 I’ve heard so many wonderful things! Gonna make a point now to go this year for my birthday 🥰
