Mental breakthrough on current left/right tribalism in the U.S

The left has been corrupted by purity culture. If your view, means to an end, etc has not been approved by The Left Regime (or you are not well versed on dozens of leftist philosophers and the latest theories, you’re out!). Also why it’s so hard to get them to engage on bitcoin, because it’s not what their tribe uses, it’s right wing money (according to them)

The right has been overtaken by Trump and a party of valueless debauchery. Conservatives/republicans used to be values driven with actually policy and ideas, which I could agree or disagree with. Now it’s just complete chaos fueled and led by Trump, who has no political philosophy or value system, just ego.

The right has just become about being anti-left. They simply have lost all trust in the institutions of govt and regulatory authority, they believe it to be corrupt, lying, and manipulative (which they are correct about), but in the absence of it, they simply turn to one dude that they think is against all that (because the establishment hates him beyond comprehension) and then they literally put all their eggs into the crazy Trump basket.

For the right, Trump isn’t a plan, it’s not a moral standard, it’s not conservatism, to them, voting for Trump is just buying a short on the establishment.

Tribalism is boring. But it’s just a symptom of the current “realignment”. Left is adopting “purity culture” and right is adopting “liberty culture”. It’s chaos now, where all we have to hold onto is some loose semblance of “with us or against us” as the ruling duopoly swaps ideologies.

Tribalism is a tool for party preservation.
