👀👀👀Can a Canadian confirm this?
Discussion
I don’t have twatter anymore, so can’t confirm that
but I can still download their news app from the app store
in app
I just went to instagramdotcom/Bloomberg and it was fine... yes I'm in Canada. Not logged in though, maybe that's why?
My ISP in Canada shows my IP as being American half the time
I actually don't know if stuff is blocked or not though because I'm not on any of the platforms that blocked 😝
Frankly, nothing was lost. It's worse if people were misinformed; they thought they knew what was going on but they were being fed false information. Now they'll have to ask someone else and that someone else is going to be more likely to be knowledgeable and less likely to be using the propaganda sources.
Been like this for months now
Imagine following Pfizer McCuckmack
Couldn't be me
Yep, ridiculous. This is due to the "Online streaming" act that was passed on April of this year: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/modernization-broadcasting-act.html
Gives more power to CRTC (regulatory body) to regulate online content shown to Canadians. (although it does not mention precisely, the legislation, afaik, was written quite loosely.
"The Online Streaming Act is about more choice. What you watch and listen to will always be up to you."
The irony!
Canuck here, the laws real. Meta has decided to block all news related to Canada rather than comply. Still available to web users for now

Been coming for a while… Don’t be surprised my dude.
Rate my new mug.
