When did you change the pronunciation of the word route from "root" - as in the famous American song "Route 66" - to "rowt" as in how or now?

The difference is primarily dependent on the region of the country one is from.
Route is pronounced as 'root' in the North East and 'rowt' can be heard predominately in the south. Pronunciation is very fluid, both are considered correct.
Okay, that's interesting. I guess hear "rowt" mostly from US media and movies.
