I'm not leaving(sorry๐ )... but I try to "adopt" newbs until they gain some wings. From what I've seen, people get frustrated with a lack of engagement after showing up to a big, warm, zappy welcome. The greetings & beginner help are great but I think large amounts of welcome zaps set an unrealistic expectation that leads to disenchantment.
I mean, if they don't post flashy notes then no one is paying attention to their stuff, so they're not even getting responses or reactions most of the time, and these are just everyday people who don't create content in the sense of what is considered valuable. They go from being paid to say hello to strangers to feeling ignored rather quickly.
I don't think people are joining to consume content so much as to find human connection. That sounds cheesy but the alternatives are soulless. The people who stay are the people who manage to make some friends. But it's tough to approach strangers, even online.
